How can you get caought stealing satillite signals?

What methods are used to catch people who steal and decrypt satallite tv signals roaming in the air. i know the penatyies i just want ot know HOW is it that they are caught. if one uses a computer and a pci card that connects to a dish. or do they just dont catch them. thanks
