Why does my fuel [ump make a buzzing sound after the truck is turned off?

i recently bought a 1999 shevy suburban and it runs fine, except that once i turn the vehicle off, the fuel pump can be heard making a humming sound. Was wondering what would cause it to keep running after the vehicle has been turned off
