A friend of mine was arrested for a lewd & lascivious act in New Jersey? ?

He now has to appear in court and defend himself. Does anyone know what type of punishment is given usually to such offenders? He is a perm resident, has never been arrested and has a clean record and is afraid that a blotch on his record might affect his chances of becoming a U.S. citizen. Is there anyone out there who has gone through something similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
