When I go to my dentist I can i ask him to use Anesthesia?

Cause i cant stand Novocaine, it doesn't work and my dentist leaves the room after using it and comes back when its time to do the work and im not even numb anymore... Would i be able to ask him to put me out cause i cant the pain of dental procedures..?
